Malmö's Men Aim to go Top
Malmö Men will take on Copenhagen in Round 2 of the Nordic Championship. After a somewhat disappointing position in Round 1, Malmö will be looking to improve upon their 4th place in Oslo. With 3 very narrow losses in that first tournament, the men will need to turn the close losses into wins.
The last time out in Copenhagen, the men finished in 3rd position with Copenhagen taking home the win. This time round it will be a straight head to head between Malmö and Copenhagen. The confidence is high though within the Malmö camp that they can beat their local rivals.
One of Malmö’s problem in recent years has been their inability to close out games. This will definitely be the focus for the men today, to turn those good performances into wins. Today’s longer match will be a test to see if Malmö can hold their nerve and their performance for the full match.
A win for Malmö will put them clear at the top of the Nordic Championships and the team are well aware of this. To go into the final round of the championship in the lead could make all the difference to Malmö’s hopes of winning the Nordic title for the first time in 6 years.
The squad from Oslo for Round 1 will be boosted by the return of Mick Lynch, Noel Grehan and Brian O’Leary. The Swedish pairing of Mats Blomqvist and Erik Jönsson will add even more strength to the Malmö side.
With the strong team travelling, there is high expectations among the players. The added incentive of potentially topping the table heading to final round in Helsinki, the green and gold of Malmö will be hoping to beat their Öresund rivals on their home turf.
